Severe Weather Alerts: Floods, Frost, and Coastal Hazards Across the US
As severe weather patterns continue to impact various regions in the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories for different weather-related events. From flooding in southeast Florida to frost advisories in Maine and Vermont, and coastal hazards in North Carolina, residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
In southeast Florida, including Broward and Miami-Dade counties, a Flood Advisory has been issued due to excessive rainfall. The NWS warns of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, with heavy rain expected to continue until 2:30 PM EDT. Locations such as Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, and Hollywood are experiencing or are at risk of flooding.
In central Interior Cumberland, Kennebec, and Androscoggin counties in Maine, a Frost Advisory is in effect until 8:00 AM EDT Saturday. Temperatures as low as 31 degrees could result in frost formation, potentially harming sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.
Similarly, Orange, Washington, Lamoille, Eastern Windsor, and Western Windsor counties in Vermont are under a Frost Advisory until 8:00 AM EDT Saturday. With temperatures dropping to 32 degrees, residents are advised to protect sensitive outdoor plants from potential frost damage.
On the coastal front, a Beach Hazards Statement and a Rip Current Statement have been issued for Coastal Horry County, Coastal Pender, and Coastal New Hanover counties in North Carolina. Strong longshore currents and a moderate risk of rip currents pose dangers to swimmers and surfers, potentially sweeping them into hazardous areas or deeper waters.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the lower Cape Fear River, including downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways is expected until 4:00 PM EDT.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents to stay informed, heed official warnings, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and protect property. By being proactive and prepared, individuals can mitigate the potential impacts of severe weather conditions.
