WTA Chair Apologizes to Jessica Pegula Following Live Broadcast of Private "Diva" Comments

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has issued a formal apology to American star Jessica Pegula after a private conversation regarding fellow player Mirra Andreeva was inadvertently live-streamed. The incident occurred during practice sessions at the WTA Finals, where audio recordings captured comments made by Pegula that were subsequently broadcast to the public. WTA Chair Valerie Camillo addressed the controversy directly, describing the situation as a "regrettable incident." In response to the breach of privacy, the governing body confirmed that audio recording devices on the practice courts will be deactivated immediately. This decision aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to respect the privacy of the athletes involved. The controversy centers on a specific exchange between Pegula and Andreeva that was picked up by microphones intended for internal use but aired live. Camillo acknowledged the error and expressed her regrets to Pegula for the exposure of these private remarks. The WTA has taken steps to ensure that future broadcasts will not include unauthorized audio from practice areas.
